At Randomstand.com we have decided to assemble an ultimate essential web designer kit. This kit is mainly for Windows but a majority of our programs we present will work on any operating system.

• NVU/Kompozer: NVU and Kompozer are easy to use visual editors. They make designing web sites easy and clean. Unlike Dreamweaver these programs are very clean, simple, and small. Randomstand.com recommends Kompozer over NVU due to better quality of the interface. But NVU has more addons and themes available for download. Both programs are free and are available for Mac, Windows, and Linux.

• Firefox 3 or 2: Firefox is a simple, clean, fast, efficient, and mod-able web browser that complies with W3C standards. Some critical mods available for Firefox is FireFTP, Firebug, Yslow, and DownThemAll!. Firefox is free and is available for almost all operating systems.

• Safari: Apple’s Safari is a simple, clean, and fast browser. By far Safari is more secure than Google Chrome. This makes Safari a better choice for testing out your web pages. Although Safari only consists of a small percentage of the internet web browsers it is still a good idea to view your web pages through this too. Safari is only for Mac and Windows.

• GIMP (GNU Image Manipulation Program): Gimp is a free Photoshop like program for almost all operating systems. Gimp is almost as powerful as Photoshop, but due to it being free there are some flaws. The Gimp interface is similar to Photoshop in a way that it is simple. One downside to this program is that it has to have at least 2 windows open to run. In which case both are your toolbars. But Gimp is a really handy tool to have in your web design arsenal.
